CATECHESIS FOR THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
After completing a program of catechetical preparation and with the approval of the Pastor, candidates may celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation between the ages of 13 and 15 (eighth and ninth grades), except for those candidates of catechetical age who are preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church (RCIA, 252, 259). This sacrament is celebrated annually at Holy Family, according to the schedule and procedures established by the Archbishop’s office. For Confirmation preparation teens will explore two programs: Alpha Series for Teens for the first ten weeks, and then the Chosen program published by Ascension Press. The Archdiocese of Detroit allows one sponsor per Confirmation Candidate. Sponsors must be confirmed Catholics over the age of 16 years, who are in full communion with the Catholic Church and actively participate in their parish (CIC 893, 874). By January we will have an individual Parent Conference Meeting to explain the Confirmation requirements. We offer faith formation to parents who have children preparing for the celebration and reception of Confirmation.
