The Golden Dimensions is a social group targeting primarily parish adults aged fifty-five years or “better” NOT “older.” In the spirit of hospitality, this organization would stress fellowship and fun for those fifty-five and “better.” After much conversation, discussion and deliberation among participants, The Golden Dimensions was born. This name relates to “golden years” and a new, bold “dimension” for the group. Its first general meeting, April 11, 2000 attracted more than seventy charter members and it has continued to a current membership of more than three hundred fifty.
There was not question that what was most desired by the group was fellowship and fun with peers. This was evident even at that first meeting when a trip to a Tigers baseball game was introduced and sold out that very day. Since then many day trips have been taken and plans are underway for some overnight ones as well.
A committee of twenty to twenty-five members headed by the chairman manages the administration of The Golden Dimensions. The committee meets on the first Saturday of the month, the same day as the general meetings, to discuss and plan activities. These are presented to and decided upon by the group. The administrative committee obtains enlightening and entertaining speakers for the meetings, provides interesting and educational trips and, most of all, supports opportunities for hospitality, fellowship and fun.
The presence of The Golden Dimensions was soon noticed at many parish events as members could now attend with the certainty of finding a table with other members. Besides enjoying each other’s company, members have volunteered to serve on committees and help with various projects.
