Spanish Bible Group

The Spanish Bible Group
Grupo Seguidoras de Cristo e Hijas de Maria

A weekly gathering of Hispanic women, who study the Word of the Lord from 10:30am until 12:30pm on Friday's. The Spanish Bible Group meets in the Family Center and the Smile Room.

Following the class, there is time for lunch and fellowship until 2:00 in the afternoon. Childcare is available for anyone who is in need of this service.

The Group of Christ Followers and Daughters of Mary was founded in 1995 with the enthusiasm and vision of Lolita Loza to attend the evangelization and spiritual growth of Hispanic women who came to live in Michigan because of their husband's jobs, mostly in the automotive industry. From 1995 to 1999 we gathered in different homes and when the group started growing we needed to look for new options.

Msgr. John Budde and the Holy Family Community kindly offered us to have our weekly Spanish Bible class at the church. We have been gathering there every Friday morning since 1999. Our class runs from 10:30am until 12:30pm and afterwards we share some time together for lunch until 2:00pm.

Today we have about 56 members with an average of 32 attending regularly. A huge number of Hispanic families are living northwest of Detroit near Holy Family. Our group members come from: Novi, Livonia, Canton, Westland, Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Van Beuren, Northville, Walled Lake, Wixom, South Lyon, Southfield, West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills, Farmington, Birmingham, Troy, Rochester Hills, and even Lapeer and Lake Orion. Our group has been a member of the Hispanic Advisory Board since 2001.

We have also worked in other groups and catholic Hispanic services such as: Cursillos de Cristiandad, Catechism in San Michael Church in Pontiac, Marriage Encounters, ICLM, etc.

Apostolate: Our main goal is the Mission in Suchitepec Oaxaca in Mexico, to provide economic support for evangelization and development of the quality of life for five small indigenous towns. This Mission was also founded by Lolita Loza and Father Leoncio Guzman, out spiritual guides.

Mission in Africa - supporting the Missionaries of Yarumal, Colombia who have been working in Africa.

Christmas's Child - this will be our 5th year supporting this great international program that collects Christmas presents for needy children all over the world.

2007 Spanish Mass Schedule
The Church of the Holy Family offers a Spanish speaking mass the last Saturday of the month at 6:30pm, except in the month of December. Please check the weekly bulletin schedule for listings.
